The technical capture courses were carried out to show the operation of four types of non-cruel and selective capture traps homologated in Spain to evaluate the potential interest of these techniques in Portugal. As these traps were not approved in Portugal, they were used in a restricted area and no animal was captured, nor could it be otherwise. The trainees were also warned of this lack of homologation and that the course did not enable them to use the traps.
It should also be noted that the traps used, although may be mistaken with illegal traps by those who are not familiar with this new traps, they have nothing to do with them, because to be approved in Spain had to pass tests where the welfare of the captured animals and their selectivity to target species was assessed. Moreover, in Spain the use of these traps implies a training certified course by the user, that each trap has the seal of homologation, serial number and identification of the user.
